Justice Education Project × UC Berkeley
(In collaboration with UC Berkeley’s Incarceration-to-College Program and Berkeley Law’s Criminal Law & Justice Center)
Multi-month civic writing collaboration at Alameda Juvenile Hall
In partnership with UC Berkeley’s Incarceration-to-College Program, the Justice Education Project launched a first-of-its-kind civic writing initiative inside Alameda County Juvenile Hall. Through sustained editorial mentorship and faculty engagement, youth participants developed substantial long-form essays examining incarceration, abolition, civic identity, and the juvenile justice system.
The collaboration will culminate in a June 2026 public webinar with Berkeley Law’s Criminal Law & Justice Center showcasing long-form civic essays developed by incarcerated youth through the initiative.
